As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.-
Research and Publication Ethics
(Adapted from COPE – Committee on Publication Ethics)
Responsibilities of Authors
1. Authors must not submit the same manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously or submit a manuscript that is under review elsewhere.
2. Authors must adhere strictly to research ethics and must not plagiarize or claim the work of others as their own.
3. Manuscripts must be prepared in accordance with the “Author Guidelines” of the Journal of Modern Buddhist Studies (jMBS).
4. All listed authors must have made a significant contribution to the research or the preparation of the manuscript.
5. Authors must properly cite any work, figures, tables, or data used in their manuscript and clearly indicate the source to avoid copyright infringement. (In case of legal disputes, the journal will not be held responsible; authors are solely accountable.)
6. Authors must ensure the accuracy of all references and should only include citations that are relevant and necessary.
7. Authors must revise their manuscript in response to reviewers’ and editors’ comments within the time specified.
8. Authors must disclose any funding sources supporting the research (if applicable) and declare any potential conflicts of interest.
9. Authors must not falsify, fabricate, distort, or selectively report data to support their conclusions.
10. Authors should not cite retracted articles unless doing so is relevant to the context of the retraction; in such cases, they must clearly indicate that the cited reference has been retracted.
Responsibilities of Editors
1. Editors are responsible for evaluating the quality of manuscripts submitted for publication, focusing on clarity, scholarly contribution, alignment with the journal’s scope and policies, and the originality of the content. Manuscripts should aim to present new theoretical insights and/or conceptual models that contribute to advancing knowledge.
2. Editors must not disclose any information about submitted manuscripts to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, or editorial board members.
3. Editors must use reliable plagiarism detection tools and shall not publish manuscripts previously published elsewhere. If plagiarism is detected, the review process will be suspended, and the corresponding author will be contacted for clarification.
4. Editors must avoid conflicts of interest with authors and reviewers.
5. Editors must not use any part of the submitted manuscript for their own research or publications.
6. Editors must only publish research with sound methodologies and credible results, using research outcomes as a basis for determining the suitability of publication.
7. If plagiarism, fabrication, or unethical research practices are detected and authors refuse to retract the manuscript, editors have the right to withdraw the article without the authors’ consent to maintain the journal’s integrity.
Responsibilities of Reviewers
1. Reviewers must treat manuscripts received for review as confidential documents and must not disclose or discuss them with others who are not directly involved in the review process.
2. If reviewers identify any conflicts of interest with the authors or feel unable to provide an impartial assessment, they must notify the editor and decline the review.
3. Reviewers should only accept manuscripts in areas where they have sufficient expertise. Reviews should focus on the scholarly significance, quality of analysis, and contribution of the work to the field. Reviewers are encouraged to identify key references that the authors may have overlooked. Personal criticism and unsubstantiated judgments must be avoided.
4. Reviewers must not use any part of the manuscripts under review for their own research or publications.
5. If reviewers discover any significant similarity or overlap between the manuscript under review and other published works, they must immediately inform the editor.
Note: The Journal of Modern Buddhist Studies (jMBS) upholds the international ethical standards established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) to ensure that all published articles meet the highest levels of integrity and credibility.
