The Effects of Role-Play and Simulation-Based Learning on Academic Achievement in Front Office Operations

Abstract

This study aimed to 1) develop a set of effective role-play and simulation activities for a front office operations course, meeting a criterion of 80/80, 2) compare students' academic achievement before and after participating in these activities, and 3) investigate students' satisfaction with the role-play and simulation activities. The participants were 27 second-year vocational certificate students majoring in hotel management at Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Vocational College. Research instruments included a set of role-play and simulation activities, an academic achievement test for front office operations, and a satisfaction survey. Data were analyzed using percentages, mean, and standard deviation.

The results revealed that 1) the effectiveness of the role-play and simulation activities was 86.50/88.80, exceeding the criterion of 80/80, 2) students' academic achievement significantly improved after participating in the activities, and 3) students expressed high satisfaction with the role-play and simulation activities.
