Guidelines For Managing Road Safety For Tourists In Tourist AttractionsWichit Sub-District Muang District Phuket Province

Abstract

Phuket Province has statistics on accidents involving tourists and local residents within the area. As tourists flood into Phuket, traffic congestion increases, and due to the physical geography of the area, where about 70% is mountainous, travel through unfamiliar routes leads to frequent accidents. The objectives of this research are: 1) to study safety management strategies for tourists on the roads in tourist attractions in Wichit Subdistrict, Mueang District, Phuket Province; 2) to study the quality of the safety management strategies for tourists on the roads in tourist attractions in Wichit Subdistrict, Mueang District, Phuket Province; and 3) to study the satisfaction of stakeholders regarding the safety management strategies for tourists on the roads in tourist attractions in Wichit Subdistrict, Mueang District, Phuket Province. The tools used in this study include: 1) a quality questionnaire, and 2) a satisfaction questionnaire. This is a survey-based research conducted between June 27, 2021, and February 4, 2022. The data was collected from tourist attractions in Wichit Subdistrict. The sample group was selected by the researcher, consisting of officials from the Department of Highways, the Wichit Subdistrict Municipality, and 30 tourists. After data collection, the results were processed using statistical software.

The study results suggest that in the tourist areas of Wichit Subdistrict, the safety management plans should be applied and developed further to control or reduce accidents in the tourist areas. This would help prepare the area to welcome tourists, making them feel safe and building confidence among visitors.
