AN ANALYSIS OF THE SUEB CHATA MAE NAM RITUAL: A FUSION OF TRADITIONAL BELIEFS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION

This academic article aims to analyze the Sueb Chata Mae Nam ritual as a fusion between traditional beliefs and environmental conservation. It explores the history, ritual elements, and adaptations to align with contemporary social contexts. The study employs participant observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The findings reveal that the current Sueb Chata Mae Nam ritual not only expresses respect for the sacred according to traditional beliefs but also reflects the importance of environmental preservation. This is manifested through various symbols in the ritual, such as the use of natural materials, emphasis on cleanliness, and raising awareness about river conservation. The ritual demonstrates the potential of folk culture in creating community awareness and participation to sustainably address environmental issues.
