A STUDY OF LONG BOAT RACING TRADITION: ADAPTATION IN THE ERA OF SPORTS TOURISM

Abstract

This article aims to study the long boat racing tradition in Thailand, which is a traditional sport that has existed since ancient times and has been adapted into a sports tourism activity in the present era. This research is qualitative research by collecting data from documents, related research, and interviews with people involved in the long boat racing tradition. It was found that the long boat racing tradition has been adapted and changed according to the changing social and cultural conditions. The long boat racing today has been more managed in the form of sports competitions and is a part of Thai sports tourism. It needs to adapt to the needs of tourists and the changing era but still maintain the original values and identity of the long boat racing tradition.
