Abstract

This academic article examines the phenomenon of online merit-making in contemporary Thai society, reflecting the transformation of Buddhist rituals in the digital age. The study analyzes the adaptation of temples and Buddhists in applying digital technology to preserve merit-making traditions through various online forms, including electronic donations, online dharma listening, and remote ritual participation. The findings reveal that online merit-making represents a cultural innovation responding to modern lifestyles. While debates exist regarding sanctity and appropriateness, this adaptation helps maintain Buddhism's relevance in digital society and demonstrates cultural resilience in changing social contexts.
