Abstract

The Yao ritual is a traditional healing practice deeply rooted in Thai society, particularly in the northeastern region. This academic article aims to analyze the role and significance of the Yao ritual within the context of modern medicine, examining the relationship between traditional beliefs and contemporary medical systems. Using qualitative research methods, including participant observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis, the study explores how traditional healing practices coexist with modern healthcare. The findings reveal that while the Yao ritual cannot directly treat physical ailments, it continues to play a vital role in psychological healing and patient encouragement. The ritual complements modern medical treatment by addressing spiritual dimensions, demonstrating the integration of local wisdom with contemporary healthcare practices. Furthermore, it illustrates how traditional rituals adapt to meet contemporary health needs while maintaining their cultural significance.
