Abstract

This academic article aims to analyze the ritual worship of Mae Phosop in Thai society, particularly focusing on the persistence of beliefs and rituals in the context of modern agricultural society. The study employs qualitative research methodology through in-depth interviews with farmers and ritual practitioners in central and northern Thailand, along with analysis of relevant documents. The findings reveal that although Thai society has transitioned into modern agriculture emphasizing technology and science, beliefs and rituals related to Mae Phosop continue to exist dynamically, with adaptations in their forms to align with changing social contexts. Key adaptations include the integration of traditional beliefs with agricultural scientific knowledge, the streamlining of ritual procedures, and the application of digital technology in disseminating knowledge about the rituals. These rituals continue to serve as spiritual anchors and provide spiritual security for farmers, while also functioning as important mechanisms for preserving Thai agricultural wisdom and culture, as well as strengthening agricultural communities in the modern era.
