บทความฉบับนี้นำเสนอกระบวนการที่สหภาพยุโรป (EU) ดำเนินการเพื่อต่อสู้กับอาชญากรรมขยะผ่านการบังคับใช้ระเบียบการขนส่งขยะ (หรือระเบียบ WSR) และข้อกำหนดว่าด้วยอาชญากรรมสิ่งแวดล้อ (ข้อกำหนด ECD) ประการแรก บทความฉบับนี้แสดงให้เห็นว่าอาชญากรรมขยะในกฎหมายของสหภาพยุโรปได้รับการนำเอาหลักการของระเบียบ WSR และข้อกำหนด ECD มาใช้ควบคุมการขนส่งเพื่อป้องกันการกำจัดและการค้าขยะผิดกฎหมาย เสริมสร้างการดำเนินการต่อต้านการจัดการขยะที่ผิดกฎหมาย พร้อมกับระบุประเภทกับระดับของบทลงโทษทางอาญา ประการต่อมา บทความนี้ยังแสดงให้เห็นว่ากฎหมายสิ่งแวดล้อมของสหภาพยุโรป ซึ่งบังคับใช้ภายใต้ความรับผิดชอบของรัฐสมาชิกสหภาพยุโรป รวมทั้งอยู่ภายใต้การกำกับดูแลของศาลยุติธรรมแห่งสหภาพยุโรป (ศาล CJEU) ช่วยสร้างความมั่นใจว่าอาชญากรรมขยะจะถูกควบคุมทั่วสหภาพยุโรป ท้ายที่สุด บทความฉบับนี้นำเสนอคำวินิจฉัยที่สำคัญของศาล CJEU ที่กล่าวถึงการปรับใช้ระเบียบ WSR และข้อกำหนด ECD ซึ่งปกป้องสิ่งแวดล้อมของภูมิภาคยุโรปจากอาชญากรรมขยะที่ยังไม่ได้รับการแก้ไขในระดับชาติและระดับภูมิภาค ท้ายที่สุด บทความฉบับนี้วิจารณ์ความเป็นไปได้ของแนวคำพิพากษาของศาล CJEU เกี่ยวกับอาชญากรรมสิ่งแวดล้อมของสหภาพยุโรปในเชิงวิเคราะห์ บทความฉบับนี้ได้ให้ข้อสังเกต อันนำไปสู่ข้อเสนอแนะเกี่ยวกับการใช้กฎหมายสหภาพยุโรปที่กล่าวมานี้ในทางปฏิบัติ และสรุปด้วยข้อคิดเห็นที่นำไปสู่การปรับปรุงการดำเนินงานในอนาคต
