Abstract

This editorial of the Journal of Medical and Health Profession Education (MHPE), the second issue of 2026, supported by the Office of the Promotion and Development of Physicians and Medical Personnel (OPD), features one interesting review article: "Analyzing the Quality of Multiple-Choice Items using Item Response Theory (IRT)." This method is one of the processes used to assess the psychometric properties of multiple-choice items and should be beneficial to faculty members who need to monitor the quality of items used in important assessments. In addition to assessing knowledge with multiple-choice items, assessing clinical competency through OSCE exams is also crucial. This issue publishes three research papers: "The Ability to Intubate Medical Students Assessed from the Anesthesiology Examination, the Stage 3 Licensure Examination (OSCE), and Perceived Self-Competency." After rigorous training, the second paper, "High-Fidelity Simulation for Emergency and Difficult Airway Management Training in Novice Learners," compares the assessment of medical students' proficiency in endotracheal intubation, a life-saving procedure that medical graduates are expected to master. Furthermore, in an era where AI plays an increasingly important role, the third research paper, "Factors Affecting Medical Students' Proficiency Scores in Searching for Emergency Care Principles Using ChatGPT," studied the perceptions and proficiency of medical students in using AI to search for medical information to solve patient problems. This should provide preliminary information for readers interested in the topic of AI literacy among medical students. The MHPE journal is published every three issues per year. We invite those interested in medical education or related health science education to submit articles and research for publication to further disseminate knowledge in this field.
