The Role of Technology in Electoral Voting

Abstract

This research aims to study the laws related to the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) in India, the United States, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Brazil, and to examine the problems and benefits of these systems in order to propose appropriate guidelines for use in Thailand. The methodology is documentary research, which a process of studying, collecting, analyzing, and synthesizing information from research documents such as textbooks, academic articles, legal texts, records, or digital media. The reliability of the documents is investigated and the content is analyzed and interpreted to summarize that relate with the research objectives.

The analysis of laws and documents reveals that other countries have clear laws permitting government agencies to use electronic voting machines (EVMs). The benefits of implementing electronic voting machines (EVMs) include reduced budget of election and increased public access to elections. However, the adoption of this technology also presents risks such as cyber attacks and occasional software errors.

This research suggests revising the legal framework regarding electronic voting machines (EVMs), including the structure, content, and procedures for defining legal and technical requirements to align with international standards and best practices. Furthermore, it is crucial to develop technical, organizational, and security aspects to ensure the Election Commission and implementing personnel understand the process before implementation. Consequently, the public maintain the latest technological standards and best practices through transparent processes.
