This study employed a quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design to examine the effects of the DEEP Design Thinking Model combined with ChatGPT on English writing skills and writing anxiety among Thai EFL students. The sample consisted of 38 Matthayomsuksa 5/4 students from Ayutthayanusorn School in the first semester of the 2025 academic year, selected through cluster sampling. The research instruments included lesson plans, an English writing skills test, and a writing anxiety questionnaire. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, dependent samples t-test, and effect size (Cohen’s d).
The results indicated that students’ writing skills significantly improved after the intervention (t = -14.97, p < 0.05, d = 1.34). In addition, writing anxiety significantly decreased from a high to a moderate level (t = 27.51, p < 0.05, d = 1.46). However, the use of a one-group design may limit causal interpretation due to potential threats to internal validity, including history, maturation, and testing effects.
