Brahmavihara for Society Development

Abstract

This article aims to visualize the values of Brahmavihara in Thai Society. It is true that Brahmavihara is a supreme virtue for mental abiding including loving-kindness, compassion, sympathy and indifference. This teaching maintains values in aspect of long-lasting relationship and prosperity in Thai society in three areas: family, education, and work. In terms of family, Brahmavihara helps all members of a family to live together for doing their duties with the best based on the moderate conditions, ethics and laws. In area of education, it functions a great value to education in which the students and teachers interact and learn happily, completing their duties with good relationship; thus, the knowledge is effectively transferred. In area of work, Brahmavihāra helps the growth and development of working of people in society, that is, it encourages a effective outcome, unity and corporation, and the workers to complete their duties together with happiness and friendly helps Through this virtue, people can be successful and complete their works in both of moral and living in modern time which necessarily require both of mental and social strength.
