AI Usage Policy

Journal of Contemporary Buddhist Society (JCBS)

The Journal of Contemporary Buddhist Society (JCBS) recognizes the rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies, which are increasingly being used in academic writing. To ensure that such tools are used appropriately, transparently, and in accordance with research and publication ethics, the journal establishes the following policy regarding the use of AI in manuscript preparation.

1. Authors

     1) Authors are fully responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and completeness of their manuscripts. All submissions must be carefully reviewed and revised prior to submission. Authors must ensure that their work is original, does not infringe upon the intellectual property rights of others, and reflects their genuine scholarly contribution.
     2) Authors may use AI tools solely for improving language quality, clarity, and readability (e.g., grammar checking, spelling, punctuation, paraphrasing, or formatting). However, AI must not be used to generate substantive academic content. Authors remain entirely responsible for the validity, accuracy, and interpretation of the content.
     3) The use of AI for data analysis, statistical reporting, interpretation of results, or drawing conclusions is not permitted. If AI is used as part of the research methodology, it must be clearly and transparently described in the Methods section, including the name of the tool, version, purpose of use, and sufficient details to ensure reproducibility. The use of AI must not exceed 30% of the relevant research process.
     4) The use of AI for generating, modifying, or manipulating images, figures, tables, or graphical elements in a way that alters the original meaning or data is strictly prohibited. Only basic adjustments (e.g., brightness, contrast, or color balance) are allowed, provided they do not distort the original information.
     5) AI tools must not be listed as authors or co-authors, and cannot be cited as authors, as authorship implies accountability and responsibility that can only be assigned to human contributors.

2. Editors

     1) Editors have the authority to reject manuscripts immediately if there is evidence that AI has been used to generate or fabricate academic content in violation of this policy.
     2) Editors must treat all submitted manuscripts as confidential documents. They must not disclose, copy, or share any part of the manuscript, nor upload it into AI systems, in order to prevent data leakage and protect intellectual property rights.
     3) Editors must rely on their own academic judgment and critical evaluation. The use of AI tools to assist in editorial decision-making or manuscript evaluation is not permitted, as it may lead to inaccurate, incomplete, or biased conclusions.

3. Reviewers

     1) Reviewers must treat all manuscripts as confidential and must not disclose, copy, or share any part of the manuscript. Manuscripts must not be uploaded into AI systems to prevent data leakage and protect intellectual property.
     2) Reviewers must not use AI tools to analyze, summarize, critique, or evaluate manuscripts under any circumstances. This ensures that the peer review process remains rigorous, unbiased, and academically sound.

4. Core Principles

The Journal of Contemporary Buddhist Society affirms that AI cannot replace the academic responsibility of authors, the editorial judgment of editors, or the scholarly evaluation of reviewers. The use of AI must therefore be guided by principles of transparency, integrity, and ethical publication practices in order to maintain the quality and credibility of the journal.
