THE ROLE OF SOCIAL MOVEMENTS IN INFLUENCING GOVERNMENT POLICY CHANGE

This article aims to examine the role of social movements in influencing policy change within the context of Thai society. It focuses on analyzing the mechanisms, strategies, and factors that enable social movements to drive policy transformation. The study is grounded in the theoretical framework of Social Movement Theory and draws on case studies of significant political and social events over the past two decades, such as environmental civil society movements, youth-led movements, and human rights campaigns. The findings indicate that key factors contributing to the success of social movements include the clarity of demands, support from media and civil society networks, as well as the prevailing political context. The article concludes with policy recommendations that emphasize the promotion of public space and citizen participation in shaping state policy in an effective and sustainable manner.
