GUIDELINES FOR STRENGTHENING THE ROLE OF MAHAMAKUT BUDDHIST UNIVERSITY IN DEVELOPING CITIZENSHIP IN A DEMOCRATIC REGIME

Abstract

This research aims to create a model for strengthening the role of Mahamakut Buddhist University in developing citizenship in a democratic regime. This research is a qualitative research in the form of R&D research, document data study, and focus group discussion with 12 participants. Data were analyzed using content analysis techniques with context and triangulation technique to check the completeness of the data. The results were presented in a descriptive manner.

The research results found that:

Step 1: Mahamakut Buddhist University, as a Buddhist university, should apply Buddhist knowledge to benefit society. This resulted in the role guidelines of Buddhist universities in developing citizenship in a democratic regime.

Step 2: This development stemmed from seeing the roots of Mahamakut Buddhist University, which represents a Buddhist university that must integrate interdisciplinary studies in developing society and the nation.

Step 3: The operations of Mahamakut Buddhist University use both Buddhist and democratic principles in developing citizenship. Therefore, it is expected that the trend and direction of the role of Mahamakut Buddhist University in developing citizenship in a democratic regime must come from the integration of both within the university and external agencies. Which must drive development simultaneously in many dimensions.
